Kids can have fun this summer exploring the theatrical world of the Bard with Nashville Shakespeare Festival (NSF). NSF offers two distinct summer programs led by NSF’s teaching artists and professional actors, and you can sign up your kids now.
NSF’s Shakesperience program is for kids ages 8 - 16. Participants will explore several aspects of the theater, including acting, directing, costume design, set design and special effects. Kids will also learn sonnets, study characters from The Tempest and play theater games.
Four one-week sessions are available: June 3 - 7, 10 - 14, 17 - 22 and 24 - 28 from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day. Tuition is $250, and the program takes place at 1120 Elm Hill Pike, Nashville. For questions, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
ELF & FAIRY CAMP
Kids ages 7 - 14 can register for NSF’s Second Annual Elf & Fairy Camp. Participants will create their own character and learn songs and dances to perform as part of the ensemble in NSF’s production of The Tempest (Aug. 15 - 22 in Nashville; Sept. 26 - 29 in Franklin).
There are six sessions in Nashville: Aug. 12 - 18, Aug. 19 - 25, Aug. 26 - Sept. 1, Sept. 2 - 8, Sept. 9 - 15 and Sept. 16 - 22. Training and rehearsals take place Mon - Wed from 4 - 6:30 p.m. with performances Thu/Sat/Sun (6 p.m. call time; 7 p.m. performance). Everything in Nashville takes place at oneCITY (8 City Blvd., Ste. 402, Nashville).
The Franklin session runs Sept. 23 - 29 with training/rehearsals Mon - Wed 4 - 6:30 p.m. and performances Thu - Sun (6 p.m. call time; 7 p.m. performance). Everything in Franklin takes place at the Academy Park Performing Arts Center (112 Everbright Ave., Franklin).
